What is the reason of leaking of Flat roofs?

Flat rooftops and green rooftops are waterproofed with single layers which have creases and are not reinforced, or Asphalt which ends up delicate and does not suit partial expansion.

The way to flat rooftop waterproofing is that the framework is consistent, completely reinforced, and dry in seconds. Polyurea coatings combine extreme application properties, for example, fast cure (even at temperatures well underneath 0°C) and obtuseness to moistness.

Polyurea coatings on flat roofs have excellent physical properties, for example, weather protection, adaptability, elasticity, fabrication and water protection. The outcome is phenomenal long haul weather protection.

The rooftop waterproofing framework utilizes 100 percent-solids, so no solvents, no outflows and no VOC, consequently a naturally well-disposed covering. Because of its outstanding properties, the Polyurea shower coatings are utilized globally to waterproof every kind of structures.

Best Way To Patch A Roof That Leaking

If my flat roof is leaking what should I do?

The main problems with leaking roofs are that it is very difficult to find where the actual leak is in the roof. The very nature of a leak is that water may leak in at a certain area and then it may travel for a few meters and then the leak may appear at a different point on the inside. We then automatically think that the actual leak is right above the visible leak. This is most probably not the case; the leak may well have started at an entire different location.

Waterproof.ie Polyurea and polyaspartics are the best products to use to fix a leaking roof. The products are manufactured by our parent company and are blended to the finest quality. Traditionally tar based product were widely used to seal a leak. This is not a long-term solution and may not be successful at all. Unfortunately the traditional tar based products do not adhere to surfaces very well. They will crack and peel with sunlight and is not UV stable.

Polyurea will not crack or peel, it will adhere to wood, concrete, steel, fiberglass and many other different substrates. It is UV stable, it will not crack, peel or warp. Waterproof.ie product are constantly being worked on with our in house team of chemists in our purpose built labs.

Any seam in the roofing material is a natural spot for a leak. Look closely at all seams. Do you see cracks or holes of any type? Is there a place where you can lift a small edge of a seam? Also a common point of leakage in these roofs are where the concrete has cracked, particularly if the crack is in an area of roof ponding or near a roof drain where the most water accumulated during wet weather. If an area has poured concrete, typically reinforced with steel mesh or steel re-bar, has a gentle slope to a roof drain. Imperfections in roof construction or less often due to sagging or structural movement can cause low areas that pond. Waterproof.ie can also provide your will many crack repair products and waterproofing solutions to help and assist in the preparation of roofs for an elastomeric roof coating.

Areas of roof ponding show up as dark areas where dust and debris accumulate in the areas that stay wet longer on the roof surface. Ponding that has evaporated within 24 hours of a rainstorm is not considered an actionable roof defect. If you do a thorough job of preparing the concrete roof surface for coating with an impermeable sealant such as Waterproof.ie polyaspartic or polyurea you should find and remove all of the old, poorly-adhered roof coating to expose clean dry (let it dry if needed) concrete surface.

Tips & tricks of the trade when preparing & scraping a previously-coated concrete roof surface. Remove all loose debris. Scrape and remove existing roof coating that is not soundly adhered to the roof surface. Waterproof.ie are very rigid about the roof preparation prior to coating, but we as a company figure it’s better to sweat just once than to have to do the job all over again next year because I did a poor surface preparation job the first time.

The best way to ensure that your roof is completely watertight and sealed, is to ensure all preparation is done to the highest possible standards and the customer may consider completely coating the entire roof area. This will ensure a complete sealed watertight roof. Consideration may also have to be given to the fact that a roof may contain a lot of moisture if it had been leaking over a period of time. If you coat over this rook and this moisture may need an area to escape, this can only be done by venting the roof. We commonly see vents on roofs all around the world and this can be one of the reasons for this. All roofs need to breath and air needs to get in and out. When the sun shines on a roof and the temperature rises this will cause the water ingress or moisture to expand into gas and this gas needs to escape and this is why we use vent.

At www.ultimatelinings.ie we offer a wide range of Polyurea Waterproof Coatings for Roofs and Decks, Bund Linings, and Pond Liners etc. The Polyurea waterproofing started back in the late 1990′s when a researcher Dudley Primeaux, who was working with Texaco at the time, found a quick set covering which we call POLYUREA today.

Polyurea items have made some amazing progress since their beginning. At first, the treatment time was just two or three seconds which made the hardware and additionally the applications constrained. The primary uses for Polyurea came in the auto business. It was utilized to make “skins” for dashboards, and doors by applying the quick set item into open molds. As the Polyurea innovation propelled, the item and gear turned out to be more controllable and the treatment times were eased back to build the value of this imaginative product. Now you can use this product to waterproof anything and best utilization of Polyurea is on flat roofs.

The advantages of Spray on Membranes V’s Torch on Felt

Spray on waterproofing solutions have proven to be the most effective waterproofing method used in the industry in recent years. Developments in the equipment to apply the membrane that hardens in seconds together with developments in the liquid material that allows it to be sprayed on in higher humidity environments has meant the waterproofing industry has had to stand up and take notice as it is set to becomes the number one choice for waterproofing in Europe.

Its main advantage is that its seamless – No joints have meant there is less points of weak areas for water ingress. The additional fact vast areas can be coated in a short period of times means the project finishes on time and the client has his building back in ship shape, totally watertight.

The most popular are Silicons, Polyurea’s and Polyurethanes and hybrids of these.  The silicon usually proves to be the most cost effective but is also the least durable so will be idea for areas where no traffic, wither foot or vehicle is expected and it has some possible weaknesses v’d the stronger more durable Polyurea and Polyurethane but these are often offset by the huge cost savings that can be expected.

Spray finish waterproofing means all the nooks and crannies are easily sealed, simply spray the coating into the areas and the applicator can ensure no areas are missed and all the up stands are coated and there is a seamless waterproof layer on the entire roof, balcony, walkway.

Traditional methods such as torch on felt still have there place but the spray applicators have proven to be more effective in the long run. No joints have meant the likelihood of a weakness in the membrane is reduced so that the entire roof has a beginning and a end but not huge arrays of joints all welded tight, a single mistake on felt can mean a leak and water damage to the building.  The spray on has no such weakness and when coated with a UV top coat it protects the membrane against the effects of sunlight for years to some.

The most popular and cost effective Roofing Polyurea’s are made by Waterproof.ie a USA based company who have multiple patents and long term history of producing quality products and have experience qualified applicators in Ireland.  The spray on membrane systems either Polyurea or Polyurethane will always  have a  insurance backed and has long warranty and the spray on systems can be used as standalone or be applied directly on top of spray foam insulation. Every project is different and a consultation with one of the engineers is always the best way to get guidance on what will suit a particular project. For advice on the spray on membrane please upload in details here and a qualified engineer will give you a email or call if you prefer..

Leaks In Your Home

There can  be few words that strike fear into the heart of a property owner as much as: “I have a leak”.

Water seeping through the ceiling, water seeping through walls, or damp rising through the floor or up the foundation layers are problems that don’t fix themselves: they require immediate action and failsafe solutions.

A first consideration is cost – and with that comes the question of whether your insurance will cover the cost of repairs, and an assessment of how expensive it will be to fix the leak.  Many policies actually specifically rule out cover for leaks and water damage. Others use loopholes to wriggle out of their obligations.

However, how much easier if, in the first place, the building was properly constructed, the walls impermeable, moisture management at optimum level, heat transfer a process that brings no quirks such as condensation.

Arriving at a state of “impermeability” requires sound planning and construction techniques – and a solid architectural or engineering plan.

All very fine if you’re starting from the ground up – but how do you head off any issues in an existing building? For example, are there steps you can take to make a floor waterproof? Are there effective ways of keeping a building dry? Is there an ultimate solution?

As it happens, there are solutions, and among the weapons you can use in the war against unwanted water is the range of spray-on elastomers  on offer from Waterproof.ie.

By choosing from the Waterproof.ie line of products, you can protect your home, protect your buildings generally, and give yourself peace of mind into the bargain.

Waterproof.ie offers a range of tested and proven finishes and linings, all scientifically developed, scrupulously tested, and certified to the highest standards.

The team at Waterproof.ie believe in using only the highest-grade materials, and in having staff of the highest calibre who are committed to providing a quality service.

The solutions offered by Waterproof.ie come in the form of a range of durable sealants. Depending on the job in hand, the Ultimate Lining technicians will recommend a suitable product from their collection of polyurea, polyurethane or epoxy finishes.

Opting to avail of a spray-on lining product from Waterproof.ie is a quality solution, a tried and tested way of keeping water, dampness, and other liquids out – or indeed, keeping them in as the case may be (these spray-on linings are also a highly effective way of waterproofing tanks and containers from the inside out).

Waterproof.ie don’t believe in shortcuts; they don’t believe in cutting corners. Ultimate’s mantra is: “Do it right – right from the start”.

The “gains” that can come from skimping on a job are quickly lost if conditions really test or strain the workmanship and materials, and so Ultimate insists on strenuous and rigorous monitoring throughout, to ensure the quality of the materials is top-grade, and that the application is carried out exactly as prescribed.

That’s why its products are the finish of choice for so many building professionals who want a quality-assured, tested and certified product, guaranteed as a reliable, durable, stable solution to the enduring issue of waterproofing.

The best way of staving off issues with water egress – in whatever form that may be – is to anticipate the problem at the beginning of a project. Make haste slowly: it’s better to take the time to examine possible problem scenarios and to thus have the time to put solutions in place so these problems never have the chance to actually materialise.

Talk to Waterproof.ie; outline your plan, detail your intended activities, spell out your fears, tell them your requirements, and ask them to come up with a recommendation that will cover all your needs.

It’s far better to do it this way than to find yourself in the future pleading for mercy from an insurance company who wriggles out of what you believe to be its obligations by telling you you should  have read the small print.

Protect Against Damp And Water With Polyurea And Polyurethane Products

For the owner of any building, a prime concern is security – against crime, and against water or damp.
We don’t claim to be able to secure any place against crime – but in the battle to keep water out, we’re your top general.
Waterproof.ie supplies a range of solutions – using the latest technology to apply polyurea and polyurethane products that bond to surfaces to form a lining that is completely impervious to water.
Whether you need a top-down or bottom-up solution, the waterproofing technologies from Waterproof.ie are the answer to your problems.
Applied using a state-of-the-art spray-on system, the linings are impermeable, seam-free,  join-free and maintenance-free.
Tested in gruelling conditions over many decades in the US, they have proven their worth and the product developed there, and now supplied in this country by Waterproof.ie, is the sealing material of choice among experts in a wide range of fields.
From agriculture to aquaculture, construction to engineering, and in the sports and leisure fields – anywhere where water containment or damp-proofing is an issue – polyurea and polyurethane spray liners give peace of mind.
Fast to apply, quick to dry, these spray coatings can go on flat roofs, small apex roofs (garden sheds, carports, toolsheds, workshops).
The lining sprays can also be applied to floors and walls – and because they are spray-on, there is no gap between floor and wall.
This makes the application of a polyurethane or polyurea lining an excellent choice in high traffic areas – such as passageways, corridors or meeting halls a super solution.
As there is the peace of mind that comes from it being a non-slip flooring finish, it is the ideal material to coat the surfaces and walls in environments where safety is crucial, such as in changing rooms, and access areas around swimming pools, sports venues and so on.
Hygiene is a key consideration in every field, and this is an easy-clean answer. That is why some of this country’s top food producers and laboratories – including those operating strict clean room environments – have had crews in from Waterproof.ie to bring their facilities up to scratch.

The ease of maintenance has also led many of the most progressive farmers operating in this country today to choose from the Waterproof.ie range of product assortments.  They especially like the ease of cleaning, since a good hose down with a strong jet of water is good enough – in an agricultural setting – to restore a polyurea or polyurethane finish to its original appearance.
With livestock, this is an obvious advantage.  However, apart from areas to which livestock pass or even have longer-term access, there are other uses, such as in storage areas, particularly for the storage of powdered or granular feeds, which need to be kept dry.
The Waterproof.ie range has been especially popular among stud farmers, horse breeders and trainers and staff generally in the equine sector, and is ideal in care settings, food or medicine prep areas – and of course in tackrooms.
An aspect of the Waterproof.ie catalogue of products is that the liner can be applied in various thicknesses, depending  on the level of durability and how much heavy wear is likely in the target area.
Not just that, but there is great choice in the colour ranges available – great for demarcation of areas; great for coordination with surrounding materials or finishes; and a great way of remaining true to your company’s branding themes.
A hugely popular application for the Waterproof.ie range of products in the US, is as spray-on truck-bed liners. They provide a neat, clean, durable and visually satisfying means of protecting the bed of a truck from the damage that can result from haulage of tools, materials and equipment loose in the truck.
They are also used to give a protective finish to equipment that is outside a lot – and indeed, it has been used to great effect on the furniture of children’s outdoor playgrounds.
If you have a need, Waterproof.ie has the means to satisfy that need.

A Sealant That Will Stand The Test Of Time

The best way of saving money is by not spending it – or at least keeping spending to a minimum – and a really good way of keeping spending to a minimum is by taking care of what you have.
Prolonging the life of equipment is a sound investment.
It’s also a good strategy when it comes to your machinery and motors – which is where Waterproof.ie comes into the picture.
Suppliers of a premium spray-on range of protective polyurea and polyurethane coatings and sealants, Waterproof.ie is leader in its field.
Its catalogue of offerings comprises a host of solutions for safeguarding equipment, machinery and buildings against damp and fungal growths or moulds, and, of course, in the case of metal elements, protection against rust.
Developed in the US and refined over several decades as the science developed and as the application mechanism was fine-tuned, the products available from Waterproof.ie have been tried and tested in the toughest of conditions – and triumphed.
That’s why the Utimate team can stand over their product – 100 per cent.
Their commitment and vision is matched by that of their technicians, trained in the effective and efficient application of these spray-on coatings in an exact and timely fashion.
What that means is minimal downtime: the application time is fast; the drying time is fast. Many jobs – even where the target area is large – will be completed in just a matter of hours.
The method of application sees a rapid-fire spray of vaporised product onto the surface to be sealed.
The product bonds to the planes of the object, adhering evenly to even the oddest of angles and edges, sealing all nooks and crannies and providing a bonded, seam-free, join-free finish, impervious to water.
With the assurance and comfort of knowing that the Waterproof.ie product is waterproof, curiosity all leads to the question of what exactly the product is.
The answer is that the product is what you need: more precisely, the product applied depends on the purpose of the structure or item; it depends on the demands that will be placed on it; it depends on the degree of rigidity versus “give” that is required; the thickness; the condition of the surface. It also depends on the atmospheric conditions prevailing in the location targeted for treatment. There’s also the question of whether the area to be protected is inside or outside.
In some circumstances, a polyurethane substance will be the appropriate choice. It’s the substance with the longest “heritage” and polyurethane-based applications are a solid, reliable and durable response.  Where a smooth surface is required, this is a likely choice.
The newer choice is polyurea, which offers the same sort of secure, reliable waterproof coverage, but which cures faster. It provides a top-grade barrier against corrosion and erosion, and is impressively abarasion-resistant.
However, a  particular feature associated with polyurea based finishes is their extremely rapid curing time, meaning that the technician applying the substance must really know what they are doing, and there are jobs for which the speed of curing makes polyureas unsuited.
The crew at Waterproof.ie factor in all aspects of a job before determining which type of system to use. There is much to be considered from a technical viewpoint, before assessing which of the elastomers is suitable given the conditions and demands.
Time spent choosing wisely brings a long term payback in terms of the security and protection provided, and through the savings in maintenance and upkeep.

Flat Roof Leak Detection.

Flat roofs are everywhere. Most commercial, institutional, and industrial roofs are flat roofs.  Thousands of millions of square feet of flat roof are installed each year.  Flat roofs are expensive to install at an average cost of €4-€6 per square foot and replacement roofs can cost as much as €10-€12 per square foot when disposal costs of the old roof are included.

waterprof.ie flat roof membrane is a spray on elastomer and when the surface of the flat roof surface is properly prepared, this polyurea roofing membrane can last 25-75 years.

waterprof.ie specialists have noted that roofs are often ignored as part of the building maintenance plan. The roof only gets attention when a leakf makes it appearance, and at this stage the water ingress will have happened. Through their years in business, waterprof.ie specialists have found that forty-five percent (45%) of all new roofs finished in the conventional manner develop serious problems within one year of installation.

They estimate tthe sources of the problems to:

  1. 50% – Poor workmanship
  2. 20% – Poor design
  3. 15% – Poor maintenance
  4. 10% – Material failures

Flat roofs are highly susceptible to leaks and water damage.  Once a leak begins, it will saturate the insulation beneath it, diminishing the R-value of the ceiling’s insulation and adding unneeded heating and cooling costs to a building.

These types of roof can be repaired but in many cases, these roof need to be properly vented to allow any pockets of moisture to escape and not to cause long-term rot or dry rot.

Detecting the leak can be done at nighttime, typically a couple hours after the sun goes down. waterprof.ie specialists may use and Infra Red heat detection cameras.

Infra Red heat detection cameras

The source of the problem is nature itself: throughout the day the sun’s heat will warm the surface of the roof.  The areas in the flat roof which contain water beneath the surface will warm up much slower than the rest of the roof area. The reason for this is because water has a higher thermal capacity than the surrounding insulation materials, and absorbs heat at a much slower rate.

waterprof.ie use their many years of experience to address this problem and recommend that these types of roofs are properly vented to allow any moisture to escape and allow the water damaged roofs to dry out naturally over time.

Flat Roof Leak Detection

At nighttime, after the sun goes down and the roof starts to cool off, the areas where moisture is trapped beneath will still be releasing the heat that was stored all day from the sun and can then be easily visible as “hot spots” when compared to the rest of the dry roof areas.

Once the roof leaks have been detected, the area is marked off with spray the \waterprof.ie polyurea so that a roofing contractor can easily find and repair ONLY the areas that are damaged.  This can ultimately save the building owner THOUSANDS of Euros in unneeded roof replacement costs!

The picture to the left shows an example of what the IR camera sees at nighttime.  The difference between hot and cold, or wet and dry in this case, is very clear.  There is no disputing this visual evidence.

The losses from premature roof failure run into the billions of euros every year.  These euros  are lost, and are not available to support or extend business operations.  The primary costs associated with roof failures include the following:

  • Excessive energy consumption due to reduced insulating value of wet insulation
  • Losses due to water leakage into the building, resulting in problems ranging from minor nuisances to catastrophic and life-threatening situations. Leaking roofs can cause total building outages when water invades electrical switch gear and critical production equipment.
  • Damage to the roof membrane and the structural roof components caused by trapped moisture in the roof assembly.  There are numerous accounts of people being seriously injured or killed when they fall through a flat roof because the roof lost structural integrity due to water damage.
  • Loss of salvage value of the roof insulation at the time of membrane replacement because it has become wet.  The cost of disposing and replacing insulation can cost 3Euros to 5 Euros per square foot.

The average life of a new roof in the US is seven years.  Because some roofs last over 30 years, it is clear that a lot of money is being spent that could be put to better use.  All that’s needed is regular maintanence!  Contact us to learn more about regular IR inspections as part of your routine maintanence program and how much you could potentially save.

The waterprof.ie roof coating polyurea membrane is a hot spray applied two component polyuretance which is fast drying, quick curing, seamless, jointless membrane. The advantages of this system is the reduction of risks of water ingress through the membrane which regularly occurs with the more traditional roofing systems like torch on or bitchimium based products. The waterprof.ie polyurea system is a state of the art roof coating/ membrane. It bonds directly to concrete, steel, foam, timber and bitchimium based older type roofs.

Please contact us to discuss possible roof solutions with the added bonus that roofs can repaired, replaced or newly erected without the disruption of more traditional type roof repair or installation. If a roof needs to be replaced, waterprof.ie will have a solution for you that will have little or no impact on your business productivity.

Flat Roofing Sprayed Polyurethane Foam.

spray coating a industrial flat roof

Waterproof.ie technical team have been asked to visit a large flat corrugated steel cladded roof and the business owners were have problem with condensation underneath.

There were three separate issues going on with this roof, all of which compounded the issue rooted in the failure to ensure in the first place that the roof was properly waterproofed.

To start with, the roof wasn’t watertight, so there were leaks whenever it rained. Secondly, there was no insulation installed underneath the roof. This lack of insulation caused condensation to occur inside the building.

Because of these issues, we had to come up with a different system than we would normally use.

The Waterproof.ie team had planned on waterproofing the metal roof using a Waterproof.ie closed cell foam insulation and the Waterproof.ie pure  polyurea coating.

Waterproof.ie also recognized that condensation problem stemmed from the fact that the existing coating was cooling the roof of the building, which wouldn’t be a problem if the building had insulation.

However, without insulation, when temperatures dropped overnight and then warmed up during the day, condensation developed on the ceiling of the building.  In other words, it would “rain” inside the building every day.

Waterproof.ie proposed that their cold cell insulation foam be applied to the entire roof and this would show the owners exactly how the spray foam would insulate the building and eliminate condensation.. Even though applying Waterproof.ie closed cell insulation foam would add to the cost of the job, it would be worth every penny.

Flat Roofing Sprayed Polyuret
Flat Roofing Sprayed Polyurethane Foam

The roof was power-hosed and all loose dirt and contamination was completely removed. The roof was then allowed to dry and the Waterproof.ie closed cell insulation foam was applied and straight away the ULXT 6613, 100-percent solids pure polyurea, was applied over the foam. The roof was also fitted with various types of mushroom roof vents allow any water and moisture to evaporate or gas off.

This roof is now leak-free, the building is properly insulated, and it is no longer any condensation problem in the inside. The building is now conserving energy and saving money.

Waterproof.ie Sprayed Polyurethane Foam and Polyurea roofing is a probably the best of all the flat roofing options available in today’s market. It has a plethora of benefits associated with it and very few drawbacks.

Waterproof.ie spray foam and polyurea roofing is a roofing system that is spray applied directly to the existing roof surface; it cannot be a standalone system, the foam provides the watertight bond to the roof substrate and the polyurea will provide a waterproof, seamless jointless roofing membrane that will endure the toughest of weather and adverse conditions. Specially formulated chemicals are mixed together in a unique spray gun. This mixing turns the liquid to foam, which then expands to many times its original size.

The advantages of foam are its ease of application, its versatility, its insulating capabilities and its strength. Foam is very easy to apply once you are a trained applicator. It takes some skill and knowledge of the product, but after learning that and practicing it is like riding a bike. It can also adhere to many different surfaces and can be sprayed in different thicknesses to improve roof drainage.
